Co-owner J.J. Morgan, Moody’s front of the house and the joint’s A&R man, knows his jazz bands. He spent years earning his chops at the Up and Down Club, his first club in San Francisco.

Moody’s stage is an inviting one. Some of music’s most talented artists have played here, including Paul McCartney, who has stepped under the lights more than once.

Every summer Moody’s hosts Jazz Artists in Residency, an event that includes free jazz shows by top-tier musicians, a weeklong kid’s jazz camp and a benefit performance for the Truckee Youth Music Program.

Guy Frenette, who trained under the famed Paul Bertolli and is now Moody’s Chef De Cuisine, is renown for his charcuterie skills – the making of pâté and salami.

Moody’s is named after J.F. Moody, the original proprietor of the Truckee Hotel. The restaurant’s namesake was known for his extravagant hospitality.

He’s made multiple guest chef appearances at the 4-Diamond Awahnee Hotel in Yosemite; cheffed the famed James Beard House in New York City; and has been invited to present at the spectacular Pebble Beach Food and Wine expo, among many others.
